What to expect at Roodkapje & Burgertrut?
Roodkapje offers a unique multidisciplinary breeding ground for young talent in a dynamic, riotous and multi-voiced program. Our location is an:
exhibition venue | concert hall | nightclub | anarchive | artist residence | hamburger restaurant
The cultural program happens in every nook and cranny and from noon till the early morning hours. We believe a hamburger can be art and celebrate both the low- and the high brow. We travel beyond existing art forms and break through boundaries and binaries.
Burgertrut is Roodkapje’s cosy hamburger restaurant where you can drink, eat and meet others! The best veggie, vegan and organic beef burgers in town are accompanied by a great selection of art, music, coffee, tea, homemade (vegan) cakes, healthy salads and soups. Best of all, the profit of Burgertrut supports the cultural program of Roodkapje
Accessibility
Roodkapje is situated in an old anti-squat building without a possibility to create a toilet for wheelchairs. The event space is on ground level and directly accessible from the street, Burgertrut restaurant is surrounded by stairs, but we have a ramp that we can attach to the stairs when needed. The ramp is quite steep, our staff would gladly assist wheelchair users to get up. It is too steep for a mobility scooter, also please keep in mind we do not have an accessible toilet present in the building.
We have free earplugs at the bar to protect your ears agains loud noise(s).
Events at Roodkapje can be accompanied by intense bright lights.
If you have questions or if we can help you in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact us at love@roodkapje.org or DM us on Instagram.

What if I get hungry?
Burgertrut restaurant
Our restaurant is open from Tuesday – Sunday and is most busy on Friday and Saturday evenings. We can seat 60 people in our restaurant and when completely full it can be loud and hectic. Sundays are usually a quieter and calmer alternative for less sensory overload. Burgertrut is a PIN only restaurant. Our menu can be found here
The restaurant is surrounded by stairs and therefore not completely accessible, we have a ramp that can be installed for wheelchair users. The ramp is quite steep, our staff would gladly assist wheelchair users to get up. It is too steep for a mobility scooter, also please keep in mind we do not have an accessible toilet present in the building. A near wheelchair accessible toilet can be found in Rotterdam Central Station.

What’s the history of Roodkapje?
Roodkapje was founded in Rotterdam in 2000 by Eric den Hartigh. Starting out in Eric’s hair salon on the Witte de Withstraat, Roodkapje soon grew out to be a subversive and sometimes nomadic organisation responsible for grand interdisciplinary events like Winterwolven, Reject Radicals Festival and Root Camp. During the hairsalon days the cultural program was largely paid for by the profit earned with cutting hair, this entrepreneurial spirit is what still characterizes us and what strives us to continue to create and make space for art, music and (vegan) food. Over the years, Roodkapje has grown into a multidisciplinary platform for presentation and talent support for young artists, musicians, performers and programmers in the heart of Rotterdam.
