In May 2024, Roodkapje began building their anarchive. It currently takes the shape of an exhibition consisting of anarchival pieces and traces that evolve from the Happenings organized by the residents of the Hamburger Community. While the traces are more like leftovers or small documentations of the Happenings, the pieces are commissioned works where artists are asked to anarchive their experience of a Happening.

An archive decides what’s valuable enough to document and save and also in what way. It decides how we remember the past, how we can consult this memory and who and what is excluded from this collective memory. It holds a claim on neutrality and objectivity, but is in its core colonial and patriarchal. It leaves silences and gaps. Roodkapje does not pretend to offer an objective record of the past, nor will we present any proof that something has happened. We are not interested to establish our history in practice. 

To start anarchiving is to break free from the archive as we know it. It is a proposition to figure out the ways in which the full sensorial experience of lived life can be included. Roodkapje’s anarchive is subjective, polyvocal and unevenly shaped. We celebrate the inherent subjectivity of archives that in a regular archive is often underexposed or even denied. We believe that anarchival practices can offer space for polyvocality and reciprocity in collective memory and meaning making. The anarchive is an antithesis to the archive. Roodkapje’s tentoonstelling van een groeiend anarchief
met Hamburger Community, Alice Strete, Philippa Driest, Maoyi Qiu, Sandim Mendes en Samboleap Tol

In mei 2024 opende Roodkapje hun anarchief. De tentoonstelling bestaat uit anarchiefstukken en anarchivale sporen die voortkomen uit de Happenings die door de residenten van de Hamburger Community worden georganiseerd. Beginnen met anarchiveren betekent loskomen van het archief zoals we dat kennen en traditionele vormen van archiveren afwijzen. Het is een voorstel om de manieren te verkennen waarop de volledige zintuiglijke ervaring van het geleefde leven kan worden opgenomen. We willen aandacht besteden aan de stiltes die in conventionele archivering praktijken ontstaan en ruimte maken voor wederkerigheid in collectief geheugen en betekenisgeving. Ons anarchief zal subjectief, polyvocaal en ongelijkmatig gevormd zijn.

Door het anarchief als antithese van het archief te verkennen, creëren we ruimte om de subjectiviteit te verkennen en te vieren die binnen een regulier archief vaak onderbelicht of zelfs ontkend wordt. Een archief beslist wat waardevol genoeg is om te documenteren en te bewaren en ook op welke manier. Het beslist hoe we het verleden herinneren, hoe we dit geheugen kunnen raadplegen, maar ook wie en wat wordt uitgesloten van dit collectieve geheugen. Het heeft een claim op neutraliteit en objectiviteit, maar is in zijn kern koloniaal en patriarchaal. Wij geloven dat het anarchief kan helpen het inherent subjectieve karakter van archieven expliciet te maken en ruimte te bieden voor polyvocaliteit binnen een collectief geheugen.

De anarchiefstukken zijn werken in opdracht waarbij een kunstenaar wordt uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan een happening en wordt gevraagd zijn ervaring te anarchiveren.
