workshop: Coiling Textures with Rein Reitsma

Coiling Textures is the second part in this series of workshops. Artist Rein Reitsma will introduce us to the intricate craft of coiling. Together we will work on seats for the exhibition space!

about Rein Reitsma
Artist Rein Reitsma works in between the fields of product design and art, presenting unusual, colorful objects. From ready-mades up to products on commission, his work is playful, easy to understand and makes people smile.
By mixing up materials and bending the rules, he reimagines craft and tradition. A dazzling quilt made of shirts, Baskets of packaging straps, a hand woven QR-code, a flying raincoat - to name a few. But Rein often comes back to a few basics: weaving, coiling, knotting and making ready-mades. This particular way of working made Rein an early and proud member of the @basketclub

Led by the vision of artist-designer Yara Valente, we are gearing up to build the new space that will hold and display our anarchive.
Considering Roodkapje’s DIT attitude, our vibrant community and collectivity inherent to the concept of our anarchive, Yara was certain that part of the design for the exhibition space needed to be made together. The base layer of her design consists of everything that you need physically for displaying the anarchive. The second layer is called the texture layer, which is an addition to the base and makes it soft and personal. Where the base would be the skeleton, the texture would be its skin. The final layer is the activation of the whole space.
Yara loves color, it’s one of the things that draws her to Roodkapje, that we’re colorful too. Our logo gives a sense of transparency, it fits how she looks at the anarchive. The texture isn’t finished when the space is built, you can keep adding to it. Yara’s design has three elements that she wants to make collectively, that is, together with YOU!
