Experimental electronic, avant-everything, abstract sound
Futura Resistenza is a label and platform based in Brussels and Rotterdam, operating at the intersection of performance, music, and visual arts. Futura Resistenza is invited by Roodkapje to curate a series of concerts at their venue, featuring musicians and artists who are connected to the label, as well as those they admire and wish to see perform.
DJ Marcelle
Although DJ Marcelle has been collecting music longer than most of us have been alive, she still feels like The Netherlands’ sweetheart. She’s an artist with a mischievous, rule-bending and almost ironic approach to her DJing, producing and radio hosting – cut with her trademark wit yet supported by an unquestionable amount of skill. Well known for her three-turntable setup, DJ Marcelle makes compositions out of songs and symphonies out of mixes – colliding disparate genres, appropriated vocal snippets and warped soundscapes into a giant Frankenstein-like melting pot. Her performances are inventive, euphoric and above all powerful.
Giulio Erasmus & The End of the Worm
Giulio Erasmus’s music swirls into unintelligible mutterings, songs, and collapsing collages, all made with the idea of keeping things simple. It is post-punk p-funk, pre-post dub. It is a kind of proto-music that delves into post-punk’s past and confronts it with new ideas of abstraction, space, and effectiveness. Between alienating and concrete, making the hiss of plugged instruments a central part of it all, Erasmus uses crude field recordings, voice samples, and descriptive and contemplative lyrics to great effect, reversing musical logic as melody and rhythm confusedly spiral around them.
Archetype x Tornato A/V
Leonard Prochazka is a conceptual artist whose work consistently revolves around a central theme. In his new project archetype, he channels an abstract scream for something fragile, exploring personal experiences within a polarizing society and the isolation that accompanies it. The music contrasts digitized precision with bold hooks and dramatic vocals, evoking elements of industrial trip-hop and post-punk electronics. Archetype’s debut album, “The Ick,” was released on Knekelhuis Records earlier this year. He will perform together with Tornato on visuals.
Fry RY & Marathon Man (South Of North)
Closing the night, we have South of North's Fry Ry & Marathon Man! <3 South of North has continued to blossom with an impressive string of releases from distinctive artists. And while no two acts sound alike, the label has clearly curated a specific and unique energetic feeling that permeates each of release. Funk, dub, ambient, rock, hip hop, and jazz all radiate in weird ways throughout the label’s catalog. The only constant seems to be the shared sense of playfulness and impartiality to music.
