A confrontation with the monstrous: unsettling the status quo through storytelling, mask making, performative exercises, and ritual!
The time around the winter solstice is a period of darkness. When the days are short and sunlight is scarce, a horde of ghosts, demons and witches, known as the wild hunt in different European folklore traditions, roams around the streets at night. Their riotous procession is led by Perchta, a witch on a wagon pulled by dogs. She is known as the guardian of the souls of the dead who protects the exploited and punishes the greedy. Habitually, people shelter in the safety of their homes and lock the doors to hide from the disquieting hordes. But maybe it is time to confront the monsters? Maybe it is time to get to know our ghosts? Aren’t there valid reasons to unsettle the heavy silence? During the longest night of the year, we will speculate on the construction of the monstrous in relation to dominant culture, as a personification of fear, desire, anxiety, and fantasy. Monsters appear at a time of crisis. They come creeping out of the fissures of a rotten system to reveal its relativity, its fragility, its mortality.
We will begin the evening with dinner. This will be followed by storytelling and performative exercises cooked up in collaboration with NDNMK Solutions, through which we wonder who the monsters are and where they are drawing their powers from. We will come to embody these uncanny creatures through a mask making workshop facilitated by PyroMuse. Later, we will go outside to engage in playful experiments in public space.

Collaborating Artists
Little Red Kitchen
Little Red Kitchen is a food and mutual aid collective working from the belief that cooking is political. They provide free or low-cost meals, host solidarity diners, and raise funds for important causes. By using food to support their community and bringing people together, they aim to be a center of care for those with revolutionary spirits.
NDNMK Solutions
(Djatá Bart-Plange (1993, Meijel, NL(NL-GH)): founder, CEO, and staff) is a Rotterdam-based, artist-run company that specialises in ideology management and whiteness-related consultancy. We provide sound-focussed memetic mind castles that serve as spaces of reflection, confusion, digression, and possibly ascension.
Pyromuse
Dominique aka PyroMuse is a Dutch-Chilean makeup and mask artist who is driven to give tangibility to the obscurities that lie dormant in their mind. Through the use of makeup, costume, and collection of natural-found materials, they breathe life into imaginative characters, often in a grotesque manner. Within their artistic & personal practice there are themes of a raw and sentimental nature. Focusing mainly on the physical and emotional human experience, they use animism and a Pagan approach to explore the culmination of dual forces in nature, as well as the vast relationships between humans and nature.
