###### If The Little Red Riding Hood took place in your hood, who would you be?

RED HOODS, or, “Mama always told me not to run in the dark” is a collective, Rotterdam-based, horror-twisted rendering of The Little Red Riding Hood / Roodkapje turned into a horror show/real-life scary mansion, reflecting everyday fear. A dark city-scape of Rotterdam: of its sounds, stories, places, visuals (Roodkapje’s story resonates in the streets, each time another “little red riding hood” meets a wolf).

The week-long showcase of singer, writer and bread maker Viana (vixnde) Afoumou will collaboratively materialize and grow through a series of events, inviting artists like SAMODIVA, Daijiro Hama, Leonie Roessler, Samuel Verburg as well as the audience, to be co-writers and creators, in live painting, jamming and a nocturnal FM (full moon) field recording walk.

During Roodkapje’s year-long Hamburger Community residency, Viana emphasized storytelling through sound, food and experiences, accompanied by her treadmill, a relentless shapeshifter alternating between roles; from safe workout companion to CD walkman player and instrument. Together, they explored the treadmill’s musical and performative potential, while inviting schooled and unschooled artists alike to join in experimental and electronic jam sessions.

Based on varied perceptions in city environments, RED HOODS, or, “Mama always told me not to run in the dark” , invites a re-imagination of the classic Little Red Riding Hood story within the context of Rotterdam; in a role-switching exploration of the different dimensions and meanings of the term “Hood”.
(for example)
- Neighborhood: How does the neighborhood you grew up in, and/or where you live now, influence the role you take in your own “Roodkapje story”?
- Hoodie: Why do you wear what you wear in the streets? Is it an identity marker? Do you feel protected by it? Does it single you out of the crowd? Does it make you more vulnerable?
- the Little Red Riding Hood, which guides the project in terms of aesthetics, themes and metaphors. How do you apply the central lessons of the fairytale (do not trust strangers and stick to the main paths) in the multi-cultural context of Rotterdam?

What if we questioned the trope of the innocent child vs. the “big bad wolf”?
Could we be big bad wolves in others’ stories?
