You're cordially invited to the Visa Reveal Party—a celebration that embraces the joyous spirit of unveiling, just like those trendsetting gender reveal parties we all know and love! However, this time, we're taking it up a notch, transforming it into an unforgettable occasion for Maja's life journey.
Maja applied for her visa on September 15th, 2022, and we've eagerly awaited the IND’s decision ever since. The anticipation is heightened by IND's whimsical rule of counting the application day as the start of the two-year visa, drawing the ending day of her possible stay nearer with each passing minute, keeping us on our toes and immersed in the peculiarities of the bureaucratic biosphere. Will Maja’s dreams of staying in the Netherlands for one more year come true? The answer awaits, and we can't wait to share this exclusive and intimate moment with you.
Picture an enchanting gala ambiance, glasses of bubbly champagne, and an atmosphere buzzing with excitement. The Visa Reveal Party promises to be a unique blend of elegance and playful anticipation, as we unveil the long-awaited news. Following the revelry, an exhibition will showcase remnants from the party alongside Maja's extraordinary "restroying" art—masterpieces infused with whimsical humor.
Maja Simišić is a multimedia artist focusing on everyday battles, and finding ways to turn them on their head. The model she uses to overthrow existing gender and class struggles in her work is built by analysing the expectations put on us by modern societal structures and historical narratives.
As a female from the Balkans, living and working in the western world, her artistic practice is deeply influenced by, on the one hand, the perception of the eastern European in western society, and on the other, the way in which people in the Balkans are raised, their fundamental beliefs, and the role of women in both these contexts.
Mark your calendars, dress to impress, and come prepared for a night that will leave you in awe. Be a part of this remarkable Visa Reveal Party, where anticipation and uncertainty take center stage.
About the participating artists:
Omid Kheirabadi, master of ceremonies during the Visa Reveal Party, is an artist, architect, and performance artist based in Rotterdam (1992, Tehran, Iran). His works draw on questions of systematic oppression, discrimination, inequality, and struggles for liberation.
COW Shift Z will perform “Biljimeiri Vai No Alto”, an electronic live music-set created by COW Shift Z in collaboration with Cassandra (her alter-ego) Cassandra lives in the smallest micro-state in the World with only 18 square meters - Biljimeiri. Keeping in mind that she is the only inhabitant, this brings us many questions: “How is the culture of Biljimeiri?”, “Does the culture only depends on Cassandra?” and “How does she reinvent the culture in Biljimeiri?” The live-set will bring the newest sounds from this micro-state, its idiomatic expressions, Cassandra’s attitude and temperament.
VSCO is an independent artist from Porto, Portugal. They play with the parody-esque & personal elements of club music. Their mixes blend childhood memories with Portuguese folklore into a myriad of contemporary electronic styles. Their performances hybridise live performances with the DJ set format to channel a euphoric ~trash magic~ club experience.
