Roodkapje is Rotterdam's local laboratory for
ART X LIVE X FOOD and everything in between
15 November 2022
Futura Resistenza | Kuunatic (JP), Turner Williams Jr. (FR/US), Anastasia Coope (US)
For fans of: Japanese Psych, art and sound, performance, Murals by Leonardo da Vinci, LGW, typewriter keys and detuned strings, surrealistic lyrics and vocal harmonies, the guy who does the cover artwork for Frank Hurricane
Bolstered by diverse global sounds and powerful female vocals, this thrilling Tokyo-based tribal-psych trio draws from each of the member’s distinct musical influences to create a dreamy tale soundtrack. Their much-awaited debut record ‘Gate of Klüna’, produced by Tim DeWit of Gang Gang Dance, was released in the fall of 2021 via Glitterbeat Records. This year’s fall, Fumie Kikuchi (keys and vocals), Yuku Araki (drums), and Shoko Yoshida (bass and vocals) will bring their mesmerizing sound to Roodkapje for Futura Resistenza.
Alabama-born, Marseille-based artist and musician Turner Williams Jr. (formerly Ramble Tamble)’s latest record, 2021’s ‘Let It Warp’, was shaped by the thirty-two winds of the French city and the wrap of life he experienced since moving there in 2020. This fluster is translated into sound through the use of the ‘shahai baaja’ - an electrified zither modified with typewriter keys that detune several strings, plus 12 additional unfretted strings that drone along. ‘Let It Warp’ is Williams' first entry in Chicago label Trouble In Mind's Explorers Series.
Nearly a hundred years after the birth of surrealism in Europe, folk artist Anastasia Coope is keeping it alive and well in upstate New York. Both disruptive and whimsical, this nineteen-year-old painting student places her work in the legacy of Andre Breton’s manifesto - accessing the subconscious through juxtaposition. In her case, it is her voice that is piled up to amount to a cherubic choir; despite only having begun exploring music during the COVID lockdown, her 2021 debut EP, ‘Seemely’, displays a deep understanding of her sonic calling.
Futura Resistenza is a label and platform from Brussels and Rotterdam, that operates somewhere on the border between performance, music and visual arts. Roodkapje invited the label to program a series of concerts in our venue. Throughout this year they invite musicians and artists who already have a connection with the label, as well as people who they simply admire and want to see perform.
