Futura Resistenza | Label Night

Futura Resistenza presents Alexandra Phillips (NL), Mark Vernon (UK), Julia Reidy & Morten Joh (DE), Nika Son (DE), Das Ding (NL)
Doors: 20:00

After curating multiple concerts in Roodkapje, Futura Resistenza is hosting a very special label night! Expect an evening full of groundbreaking performances and concerts.

Futura Resistenza is a label and platform from Brussels and Rotterdam, that operates somewhere on the border between performance, music and visual arts. Roodkapje invited the label to program a series of concerts in our venue. Throughout this year they've invited musicians and artists who already have a connection with the label, as well as people who they simply admire and wanted to see perform.

ABOUT NIKA SON
Nika Breithaupt alias Nika Son works as a musician, artist, film composer, curator and Dj after graduating in Fine Arts in Hamburg in 2012. Influenced by Musique Concrète and the outer space of electronic music, her compositions are built from modified and fragmented field recordings, interwoven with analog synthesis, broken rhythms, rare voice scraps and modulated tape. As a sound artist and film composer she became a dedicated hunter of extraordinary sounds, while experimenting with new and old technologies in music. Sounds of various origin are translated into a very unusual musical language, as if one watches the audible. She appeared on various labels, such as Mmodemm, First Terrace Records, TAL, Sky Walking, Anti-Ghost Moon Ray and her own imprint Noctui. Her latest album To Eeyore was released on the label Entr’acte in 2020. Alongside her solo concerts, she creates radio pieces, video and sound installations, and has collaborated for many years with various companions, most notably with filmmaker and artist Helena Wittmann and with the musician F#X (C, Cwelle). Furthermore she hosts regular art and music events at the Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg since 2011 with various international guests (Next Time, Noctuidae). In July 2018 she staged a two-day festival called Eruption, freely based on the musician and video artist Conrad Schnitzler. Since 2019 she is part of the curator team of Papiripar Festival, together with Felix Kubin and Florian Bräunlich. As a DJ (also under Nikae), her waywardly sound is marked by the outer space of electronic music, spanning from musique concrete, (early) electronics, synth wave, Industrial, Kraut and experimental Techno.

ABOUT JULIA REIDY
Julia Reidy makes music for processed and acoustic instruments (mostly guitars). Their recorded work can be described as a series of non-traditional song forms which combine unstable harmonic territories, rhythmic elasticity and abstract narrative over stretched, episodic forms. They released several albums on labels such as Black Truffle and Editions Mego. Morten Joh is one of the many aliases of Norwegian percussionist and producer Morten Johan Olsen, known from bands like MoHa!, N.M.O., Naaljos Ljom, and Splitter Orchester.

ABOUT DAS DING
Early 80s; punk, post-punk and new wave inspired a lot of DIY initiatives, including cassette labels. Tear Apart Tapes was an excuse for Danny Bosten and Johan de Koeijer to distribute their own music and that of others. Das Ding is electronic music, mainly inspired by the equipment itself, sequencers and synthesizers, rigid and robotic. Anno 2012, the Internet plays a big role in the emergence of all these obscure releases, and labels like Minimal Wave and Analogue specialize in reissues of them. Das Ding suddenly appeared to be the epitome of 'Minimal Wave'.

ABOUT ALEXANDRA PHILLIPS
Born in Port Chester, New York, in 1988, ALEXANDRA PHILLIPS lives and works in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Phillips’ practice includes working with materials she forages or finds herself, oftentimes led by the material in her decision making process. She is fascinated by the things we don’t really notice, and tends to celebrate the under appreciated in her practice. Phillips questions the material value systems, especially the human tendency to get rid of things as soon as we have acquired them. Her practice encompasses sculptures, drawings, and installations, among other things. Phillips’ work has been included in exhibitions around the world, including New York, Athens, Antwerp, Hamburg, Brussels, and Rotterdam.

ABOUT MARK VERNON
Mark Vernon is a Glasgow based artist who explores concepts of audio archaeology, magnetic memory and nostalgia through his sound works. At the core of his practice lies a fascination with the intimacy of the radio voice, environmental sound, obsolete media and the reappropriation of found recordings. A rich collection of domestic tape recordings; audio letters, dictated notes, answer-phone messages and other lost voices often find their way into his unorthodox soundworlds. These diverse elements are distilled into radiophonic compositions for broadcast, multi-channel diffusion, fixed media and live performances. A keen advocate of radio as an art form, he co-runs and curates Glasgow’s art radio station, Radiophrenia. He was a founding member of Glasgow’s Radio Tuesday collective and went on to set up several other RSL art radio projects in the UK including Hair Waves, Efford FM and Nowhere Island Radio. He is an award winning radio producer who has created programmes for stations including Resonance FM, VPRO, Sound Art Radio, Radio Revolten, Deutschland Radio Kultur, Radio Cona, Radio Picnic, Ears Have Ears, Kunstradio, Wavefarm, RADIA, EBU and the BBC. Since 2011 he has co-run Lights Out Listening Group – a bi-monthly listening event focused on creative uses of sound and radio that takes place in complete darkness. His solo and collaborative music projects have been published through labels including Kye, Glistening Examples, Staalplaat, Flaming Pines, Ultra Eczema, Entr’acte, 3Leaves, Misanthropic Agenda, Canti Magnetici, Staubgold and Gagarin Records, as well as a series of small CDR and LP editions on his own meagre resource imprint.
