FINISSAGE | Smudged Soil

FINISSAGE | Smudged Soil
Saturday, 30 April
With Hasret Emine, Avalon Passion, Lucija Gregov & Christine Cornwell

With this finissage of Smudged Soil comes an end to the first collective Hamburger Community project of Roodkapje’s 2022 Hamburger Community. In celebration of the Smudginess and the works in the exhibition, we invite you to this finissage where some projects reach their end and others start anew.
Mentor and instigator of Smudged Soil, Dennis Muñoz Espadiña created a publication with additions by the participating artists and NY-based artist Helena Grande, whose Night Soil poems formed the inspiration for Smudged Soil. The publication will be launched by Avalon Passion and will be available at this event.

Hasret Emine, who started their publishing house Pembe Publishing, will release their first zine and invites Rotterdam based black, queer social researcher and writer Ashley Nkechi Igwe for the zine’s launch. The scores that Lucija Gregov developed for Smudged Soil provide the base for the sonic performance “The very moment of losing ourselves in the attic and refusing to admit it.” by Gregov and producer, violinist, and improvisor Christine Cornwell.

Ultimately, we close off the night, dancing away Smudged Soil with some DJ tunes.

PEMBE PUBLISHING
Hasret Emine will explain about their newly founded publishing house Pembe Publishing, which centers BIPOC, queer, trans* anticapitalists. They will explain how the first publication Folded Hands came into being in Roodkapje, with a group consisting of Ibrahim Alaoui Chrifi, Ashley Nkechi Igwe and Wala Nura. For the finissage, Ashley will do a performance around her pieces in Folded Hands and some of her other works / inspirations

Ashley Nkechi Igwe is a Rotterdam based black, queer social researcher and writer. Central to her work as a sociologist and writer is the aim to be of service to the well-being of marginalized communities. In the space between race, gender, sexuality and class Ashley aims to build a home. The question she is most driven by in her work as researcher and writer: what family histories shape our life trajectories and how do these histories make us who we are?
