Throughout April, the Hamburger Communities of Live and Art produce their first collaborative project: ‘Agency & Machine’, in which they invite artists, musicians, and other creatives to reflect on the role of technology and A.I. in our daily lives and creative practices. In the second Podcast of Roodkapje Radio, the protagonists of ‘Agency & Machine’ will look back on their respective productions, and look forward to what is still to come.
The Podcast is divided in 3 segments:
– The first part of this podcast is a conversation between Gill Baldwin, , the HCA-artist who inspired the themes and questions central in ‘Agency & Machine’, and PhD-candidate and research Vivien Butot, moving deeper into questions regarding surveillance technology, the smart city and human concerns about privacy, which are central topics in both their practices.
– Daanie Van Den Ijssel and Tommy van Leuken reflect on their experiences as musicians that engage with new technology in their practice, the seminar by producer/musician Ezra Vonk, and their time in the studios of Worm, recording new music for ‘Agency & Machine’.
– Gill Baldwin, and HCL-residents Louisa Teichmann and Ruta Genyte are joining the conversation to further discuss and recap the use of Artificial Intelligence in create practice, and give you a scoop on two exciting projects in public space that are still to come from ‘Agency & Machine’: ‘EARTHRISE’, a coordinate-based, hybrid city game, and ‘There is Something I’ve been meaning to ask you…’, an audio tour through the city center of Rotterdam.

AGENCY & MACHINE
Directly inspired by the work and research of HCA-Artist Gill Baldwin, Agency and Machine asks the question what happens when artists, musicians, designers, and other creatives interact with technology, hard- and software, and Artificial Intelligence. Through all events attached to Agency & Machine, Roodkapje aims to challenge you to think further about what is human and what is machine, and who, in the end, is actually in control.
ROODKAPJE’S HAMBURGER COMMUNITY
The Hamburger Community programs of Roodkapje provide two yearlong development trajectories for five young, talented artists (Art), and five aspiring event programmers (Live). Throughout the year both the Hamburger Community of Art and Live collectively work towards five interdisciplinary programmes built around the work and research of the individual Hamburger Community artists.
During their stay at Roodkapje the artists and residents will receive guidance and support from professionals from their respective fields, and through an in-depth trajectory that is aimed at further developing their professional skills and positions.
