As part of ‘Agency & Machine’, Gill Baldwin is launching a revised edition of “There is something I’ve been meaning to ask you…”, her alternative audio tour through the city center of Rotterdam. Brought together by interlinking a series of interviews with architects, designers, and A.I. researchers on the increase of surveillance (technologies) in our daily lives.
The tour was originally comprised during the summer months, when the pandemic, track-and-trace paranoia, and protests started to emerge throughout the world, the audio tour has grown ever more relevant. Taking you to architectural highlights along the way, the tour gives you an intimate and personal look into the places and structures you think you know and allows you to reconsider your everyday surroundings as active sites of surveillance. As Roodkapje remains closed still, this audio tour is perfect way to get out of your house and into ‘Agency & Machine’.
Please note: Did you already take the tour when it was organised in 2020? Than you can do the tour again using your booklet, free of charge.
PRACTICAL
In order to take the audio tour, you need a working and charged smartphone with a camera, and access to mobile internet. By purchasing a ticket you will receive a link to download the tour guide that allows you to walk the route and find the QR-codes that unlock the audio at each specific site.
Once you acquire the tour guide, you are free to walk the tour at any desired moment, in any desired order.
Please note: the audio tour will be in working order until May 30th, 2021. After this date Roodkapje cannot guarantee maintenance of the QR-codes.
ON GILL BALDWIN
Gill Baldwin uses analog and digital methods to explore the biases and behaviours of contemporary digital technology. Her background as an interior architect explores the incorporation of digital technologies within the built environment and their effect on the neighbourhood, the self, and human agency.
AGENCY & MACHINE
Directly inspired by the work and research of HCA-Artist Gill Baldwin, Agency and Machine asks the question what happens when artists, musicians, designers, and other creatives interact with technology, hard- and software, and Artificial Intelligence. Through all events attached to Agency & Machine, Roodkapje aims to challenge you to think further about what is human and what is machine, and who, in the end, is actually in control.
ROODKAPJE’S HAMBURGER COMMUNITY
The Hamburger Community programs of Roodkapje provide two yearlong development trajectories for five young, talented artists (Art), and five aspiring event programmers (Live). Throughout the year both the Hamburger Community of Art and Live collectively work towards five interdisciplinary programmes built around the work and research of the individual Hamburger Community artists.
During their stay at Roodkapje the artists and residents will receive guidance and support from professionals from their respective fields, and through an in-depth trajectory that is aimed at further developing their professional skills and positions.
