Palmbomen II
Antwerp based, Palmbomen II (Kai Hugo) began his music career as Palmbomen in 2011, releasing his first EP "Moon Children" on the Dutch label, Night Gaunt Recordings. Palmbomen II creates a space where lo-fi warmth and wistful melancholy meet danceable rhythms and electronic melodies. Influenced by composers like Tangerine Dream, Enya, Larry Heard, Slowdive, Theirs is also a strong connection to old new age cassette tapes, with Sounds Of The Dawn. At the same time, Palmbomen II listens to modern musicians like Kate NV, Dean Blunt and many others. Film and series are also an important source of inspiration, for example by watching episodes of The X-Files. In 2018, Hugo released the four-part Memories of Cindy which told the story of her hometown of Carmel Vista, California.
In addition to music, Palmbomen II has also created art installations and soundtracks for films, series and video games. In 2019, Hugo started his own record label called World of Paint, releasing artists like Antenna, Cindy, Betonkust and Kleine Kova. Recently (2026) he released his own tape: dancing and crying.
MAHA
MAHA's mission is to use her creativity as a tool of resistance against oppression, prejudice and labels, - and a celebration of self expression and community. It extends to her music, specifically naming X-Ray Spex's Poly Styrene, Sinead 0' Connor, Amyl & The Sniffers and Grace Jones as sources of inspiration.
"My work i s all about stories that are ignored, misunderstood, about people who don't always feel represented in society. About injustice. But also about joyful things. I tackle different themes that all resonate with me. My goal is to share new perspectives."
Whether MAHA plays on stage or curates and workshops for Mahazine - all her activities are part of the same trail-blazing language, reciprocating and feeding off one another. "Mahazine also addresses the themes in my music. For example, injustice or tokenism in the fashion industry, discrimination, and inequity. The zine is
essentially an extended version of my songwriting. It gives you a bit more context. "My songs can be very direct, and perhaps also a bit bare: my zine acts as a kind of extension and fleshing out, where I DIVE deeper into these topics."
Cat A Lula
Since her first steps in Rotterdam, Cat A Lula fell in love with electronic music… Just like anybody else you might say, but while she got fantastic input from roaming around the Schieblok for years and working now for Operator Radio, her taste expanded to all the precious but dusty corners of music. Playing in the left field of wave, dub, funk, jazz, industrial, trip-hop, noise and what not, she collects all sorts of downtempo curveballs that she presents on her Krokodyle radio show. All in all, she finds peace in the weird yet not too corny, the old and sleazy, the hard-hitting yet not too fast, or dark but funny music (if not pathetic). Since 2024, she also hosts the Sunflowers Radio series, featuring talks with diverse FLINTA* artists or workers of the radio/music industry and showcasing innovative electronic music projects.
