2-day workshop series with Lavinia Xausa, Marta Wörner and Kiki Luitwieler
Saturday 5 December & Sunday 6 December
10:00 to 17:00 both days
This workshop is limited to 10 participants
Participation is free: please apply by sending your motivations to participate to lavinia.x@live.it

please note: this workshop takes place at two different locations!

As part of the HCA 2020 program, resident artist Lavinia Xausa organises and hosts a series of events that allows both her audience and the artist to dive deeper into her practice. Spanning an ongoing research trajectory into the relationships between notions of cults and populism, the goal of this project is to further engage with these topics in both theoretical and practical sense.
Following the conversation event of 1 December [link], this 2-day workshop event will further explore Lavinia’s research in a physical and sound-based way. The two sessions will be led by choreographer Marta Wörner and professional musician Kiki Luitwieler.

: By booking a ticket to this workshop you commit to participate in both sessions.

Day 1: Movement workshop with Marta Wörner at TIME WINDOW
5 December - 10:00 to 17:00
Location: Time Window, Teilingerstraat 120, Rotterdam

Working with very physical and concrete tasks, choreographer Marta Wörner aims to enrich Lavinia’s research starting from the body experience of the means and meaning of two broad concepts: togetherness and belonging.
Based on the understanding that the body has an inherent knowledge which is activated by experiencing and observing movement, this workshop will be constructed around the metaphorical image of the movement and kinetics of water as an element. Water can wrap and welcome the body, making it safe, but can also push it in a determined direction, like a wave the forces on to follow.
During this first day of the workshop, Marta will guide participants to individual and collective task-based improvisations. These exercises will produce the visual material to create an actual performance at the end of both workshop days.

Day 2: Performance workshop with Kiki Luitwieler and Marta Wömer at ROODKAPJE
6 December - 10:00 to 17:00
Location: Roodkapje, Delftseplein 39, Rotterdam

During the second day of the workshop, supervised by Marta Wörner and professional musician Kiki Luitwieler, the participants of day 1 will develop a live soundscape and choreography to produce a performance as final outcome of the workshop.

Inspired by the work and research of both Lavinia and Marta, Kiki will work together with the participants to produce a musical score that recalls the most evocative elements of the workshop: water, the crowd, the acts of supporting and demonstrating. With the use of a sound recorder and looping station, Kiki will record participants separately as she wil compose a live soundscape to be used and implemented during the performance.
The final performance is set to last around 5 minutes and will be professionally recorded.

THE HAMBURGER COMMUNITY OF ART (HCA)
The Hamburger Community of Art (HCA) is Roodkapje’s year long residency and development trajectory for young and emerging artists, based on the principles of experimentation, collaboration, and developing new artistic practices. What can artists learn from each other? How can (young) artists stimulate their development collectively? And, how can they find new and intriguing ways to connect to diverse audiences?

The Hamburger Community of Art 2020 is realised with the kind support of de Gemeente Rotterdam, Stichting Ondernemersbelangen Rotterdam, Stichting Bevordering van Volkskrant, Pieter Bastiaan Stichting, Elise Mathilde Fonds, Fleur Groenendijk Foundation, and Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds
