The image of somebody who loves to do as least as possible, not politically active, definitely not lethargic but absolutely hip. That’s the post-slacker, the VICE mentality, nobody’s land between the work ethos and utilitarism. The creative individualist, the underground metro-man.

Post-slack is the successor of sex, drugs and rock n roll, the materialism of the 80′s, the dingy glamour of Nan Goldion. Not as fashionable as the I-D, not as creative as Hard/Hoofd, but high quality rapped in a thin coat of superficiality. Laziness as the façade for the hard woking creative mind, because the dreams of generation Z are big, wild and endless. In an environment where more equals better, ‘enough’ seems nonexistent, but we all react seemingly indifference. Everybody is a performer and the world is the stage.

Roodkapje is examining the actual motivation and desires of the post-slacker. Richie Lopez, Milan Boonstra, Mel Chan, Joost Goudriaan and Nada van Dam are invited to approach and present the stratified character of this phenomenon. This is where the  connection with the We are the World vision is hidden. Exposing these real motivations and desires may lead to an answer to how the perfect future society will look like.

DIAMOND TERRIFIER (us / northern spy, ZS)
The saxophone and electronics solo incarnation of ZS’ out-punk saxophonist Sam Hillmer. Named after the english translation of the indo-tibetan god-name Vajrabairahva, Diamond Terrifier is concerned with the potential positive qualities of destruction as mediated by noise/drone sheets of sound music. Squealing saxophone and eerie atmospherics make this the perfect soundtrack to a late-night creepout. Diamond Terrifier’s debut was produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear.

GUARDIAN ALIEN (us / thrill jockey)
Guardian Alien is a free wheeling ensemble coming into its own, having found just the right balance between structured arrangements and wild abandon. Helmed by Greg Fox, who has lent his percussive force to the likes of Teeth Mountain, Dan Deacon, Liturgy and currently ZS, the ensemble was initially an extension of his solo music (GDFX). It rapidly took on its own identity and expanded to a core group of Greg (drums, vocals, electronics, arrangements), Alex Drewchin (vocals, synth), Turner Williams Jr. (shahai baaja), Bernard Gann (guitar and also of Liturgy), and Eli Winograd (bass), all of whom have lent their expansive talents to numerous other projects.

Route du Nord presenteert Santa Cruz & Liar’s Dice

The drummer, singer, producer and label owner from The Hague, Guy Tavares is a living legend in the Dutch underground. He established himself in the early 90’s with the lo-fi technoband Unit Moebius. But techno and rock where never worlds apart for Tavares, who was performing from the squatting scene in The Hague. As long as the sounds where dark, dystopian and relentlessly hard. The records of his stonerrock powertrio Orange Sunshine are released on his own label Motorwolf and gained worldwide attention. His new quartet Santa Cruz made it’s debut recently at Motorwolf with a double IP ‘Down on my Knees’. An album full with muggy hardrock, dreamrock and hypnotizing slow boogie, like ZZ Top on downers.

Art route Route du Nord organizes the Santa Cruz Concert at Roodkapje under the motto Route du Rock! The night is opened by the young Rotterdam based sleaze- and garagerockband Liar’s Dice. Earplugs recommended!

Route du Nord presents raw musical diamonds in talent project Richting Noordplein

Noord Bruist Festival is looking for raw diamonds and top talents from Rotterdam North. Musicians compete during the talent project Richting Noordplein in two preliminary rounds for a podium-spot at the Noord Bruist Festival on the 23^rd and 24^th of August at Noordplein. During this first round the raw talents will enter the stage at Roodkapje. Who will make it to the finals and perform with the big names from the Dutch music scene? In the jury: jury Francis Pronk (Popunie), Florian Pak (3voor12 Zuid Holland) and Willem Philipsen (musician). Richting Noordplein an initiative from Stichting Noord Bruisd and Ducos Productions and is supported by Deelgemeente Noord, Gemeente Rotterdam Sport & Cultuur, de Rabobank and Route du Nord.

Three in one Gentlemansuit 
They would have come to play last year, but fate stroke. The earthquake in Italy trembled the ground underneath their house and
they lost nearly everything. Now, a year later, all their instruments, amplifiers and drums are complete again. They shook down the misery and will play their grandiose sound and catchy guitar riffs with honest verses at Roodkapje after all.

Neon Rainbows
If you’d ask the front man of Three in one Gentlemansuit where their information comes from, you’d hear the name Feverdream often. This band has done a whole lot more than simply performing during the tours that took them trough Italy so often. But Feverdream is not with us anymore, and from their ashes Neon Rainbows arose. From quartet to duo, Neon Rainbows produces the volume of a Glenn Branca concert in your backyard. Merely armed with a guitar, drums and, oh yes, a great deal of amplifiers.

Sleeping With The Frog
Sleeping With The Frog is the solo moniker of Rotterdam based artist Marijn Verbiesen. Unlike her percussion work in no-wave outfit Sweat Tongue this is fragile, restrained music build out of dark keyboard drones, naive melancholic melodies and hypnotic tapework and field recordings.

Je Suis Le Petit Chevalier
Je Suis Le Petit Chevalier is Félicia Atkinson, a musician, artist and writer who is making an increasing impact in experimental music circles as of late. She has released vinyl records, tapes and cd-r’s via her own imprint Shelter Press and labels such as Digitalis, Stunned and Morc Records. Her music pieces and drawings are often improvised and inspired by her travels and her night visions: bleak ambience, veiled vocalising and creepy drones. Highly recommended to fans of Group French er, Motion Sickness of Time Travel and Double Leopards. Her latest cassette “Dark Morse” sees her focussing more on beat oriented material.
